CO2 Laser Snoring Treatment in Burlington

Woman covering her ears with a pillow while her partner snores in bedNabeta Dentistry offers in-office CO2 laser snoring treatment for selected patients after an appropriate assessment. Treatment is provided by our general dentists, Dr. Jared Nabeta, Dr. Richard Nabeta and Dr. Kaitlin McCann.

Snoring can have several causes, so laser treatment is not appropriate for everyone. The process begins with a consultation to review your symptoms, check for signs of sleep apnea and examine the oral and throat tissues that may be contributing to the sound. The aim is to find out whether laser treatment fits the likely source of your snoring, or whether another health concern should be assessed first.

For snoring only. We screen for signs of sleep apnea; sleep apnea is diagnosed by a physician. This laser treatment is not a treatment for sleep apnea and does not replace care prescribed by your physician. Is it snoring or sleep apnea? →

What CO2 Laser Snoring Treatment Is

The treatment uses a DEKA fractional CO2 laser, which delivers short pulses of laser energy to the surface of the soft palate. It works by stimulating collagen in the treated tissue, which is intended to firm the tissue and reduce the vibration that causes snoring. The exact protocol and expected response depend on your anatomy and clinical findings.

Who May Be a Candidate

CO2 laser treatment may be worth discussing if:

  • You snore regularly and it disturbs your sleep or your partner’s
  • The examination suggests your soft palate is contributing to the sound
  • Warning signs of sleep apnea have been ruled out, or your physician has assessed them and agrees that snoring treatment is reasonable

It may not be the right first step if you have possible signs of sleep apnea that a physician has not yet assessed, or if your snoring comes mainly from nasal blockage, jaw position or other factors the laser does not treat. Your dentist will review your symptoms, health history and examination findings with you at the consultation before any treatment is recommended.

What to Expect

  1. Consultation. We discuss your snoring, sleep concerns, health history and treatment goals.
  2. Assessment. Your dentist examines relevant oral and throat structures and decides whether referral or additional evaluation is needed.
  3. Informed discussion. You receive an explanation of the proposed procedure, expected benefits, uncertainties, risks, alternatives and fees.
  4. Treatment appointments. If you decide to proceed, the usual course is six treatments about one month apart, each taking about 5–10 minutes. After the course, a top-up visit is usually recommended once or twice a year. Your plan may differ.
  5. Follow-up. We review healing, comfort and changes reported by you or your partner, then discuss whether further care is appropriate.

Potential Advantages

For an appropriately selected patient, possible practical advantages may include:

  • An in-office, non-surgical approach
  • A treatment plan directed at selected soft tissues
  • Follow-up with the treating dental office

These are features of the treatment approach, not guaranteed outcomes. Individual results, comfort, recovery and duration of benefit can vary.

Risks, Limitations and Alternatives

Your consultation will cover both the potential advantages and the reasons the treatment may not be suitable, including:

  • Snoring may continue or return after treatment
  • More than one appointment or later maintenance may be recommended
  • Temporary pain, irritation, swelling, dryness, swallowing discomfort or other procedure-specific effects may occur
  • The procedure may not address nasal obstruction, jaw position or weight-related factors
  • Alternatives may include lifestyle changes, positional therapy, treatment of nasal conditions, a custom oral appliance (not provided at our office), or medical and surgical options; see Common Solutions to Snoring

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CO2 laser snoring treatment painful?

Most patients feel only a very slight tapping sensation while the laser is in use. Afterward, a mildly sore throat is common and temporary. Your dentist will go over comfort and aftercare before you start.

How many appointments will I need?

Usually six visits about a month apart, 5–10 minutes each, then a top-up once or twice a year. Your plan is confirmed at the consultation before you decide whether to proceed.

Is there downtime?

Most people return to normal activities the same day. Any eating or drinking guidance is given at your visit.

How quickly will I notice a change?

Response varies. Your dentist can explain when improvement may reasonably be assessed and how the practice monitors results. A partner’s observations may be helpful.

How long will the results last?

Response varies, and no specific result or duration can be promised. Top-up visits help maintain the effect.

Does laser treatment treat sleep apnea or replace CPAP?

No. The laser treatment is for snoring and does not treat or cure sleep apnea. If CPAP has been prescribed, do not stop or change treatment without guidance from the prescribing medical provider.

What does treatment cost?

Fees depend on the recommended treatment plan. The office can provide a written estimate after consultation. Patients should confirm any insurance coverage directly with their insurer.
